Federal Fair Housing Act

The Federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians; pregnant women; and people securing custody of children under 18), and disability.

Florida Fair Housing Act

The Florida Fair Housing Act (Chapter 760, Florida Statutes) mirrors federal law and additionally protects against discrimination throughout the State of Florida.

Miami-Dade County Human Rights Ordinance

In addition to federal and state protections, the Miami-Dade County Human Rights Ordinance (Chapter 11A of the Miami-Dade County Code) prohibits housing discrimination based on additional protected classes, including sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, age, ancestry, actual or perceived status as a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking, and source of income (as defined by the ordinance).
